Nature in NE-Germany - An exciting journey through
(restored)
nature flavoured with a dash of culture (17.-21. August 2006)

Region
The excursion leads us through the east
part of the federal state of
“Mecklenburg-Vorpommern” near the
Baltic Sea. This area was “sculptured” during and
after the last
ice-age leaving behind a very heterogeneous landscape. The carving
water of melting glaciers “modelled” the ground
moraines, end
moraines and sanders and gave them their numerous lakes and valleys
all differing in size and shape.
The variety of poor and richer
soils mixed with fens, bogs and lakes are the basis for an exciting
landscape known for its enormous species-richness.
The area is
also known for its low population density, its low grade of landscape
fragmentation as well as for its numerous large-scale restoration
inititiaves.
Aims
The main focus of the excursions will
lay on the large-scaled restoration of wetlands but also other
habitats as woodlands and heaths will be subject of our explorations
(for furhter details on excursion program).
The
excursion is not aimed at visiting numerous sites within the shortest
period of time. At every excursion site we will take ample time for
walking, looking around, explaining and discussing. We want to
experience the landscape. |

Prices are all-in except evening dinner and
evening drinks and are based on double or twin rooms. Extra for
single room (if available): 60 Euro (incl. 16% VAT).
Lunch is
always in the field from lunch bags we’ll prepare ourselves
during
the breakfast. Drinks for the day will also be provided.
