The
successful restoration of ecosystem functions, biotope structures
and plant or animal communities depends on a multitude of influencing
factors including socioeconomic aspects. Beside our restricted
knowledge about complex reactions in ecosystems following restoration
measures the framework conditions can change unexpectedly. What
strategies and instruments do we have to face uncertainty in
restoration? How do we handle a competent and efficient evaluation of
restoration processes to correct failures in time or to modify
restoration measures or schemes appropriately? What indicators,
thresholds and reference states can we use for a target orientated
monitoring and how can we guarantee that monitoring programs do not
exist sometimes only on paper or don’t effectuate the quality
of actual or future projects? In some cases even basic information
about restoration measures or the status quo of the restoration site is
missing!
The main goal of the session is to support dialog and cooperation
between all stakeholders involved to optimize restoration success by
evaluating all steps in restoration processes beginning with the
planning. Therefore, basic studies concerning the development of
monitoring programs as well as practical experiences in implementation
of these programs are welcome. Furthermore, evaluations of basic
problems in realization of restoration projects along with particularly
successful strategies to avoid failures are in focus of the session. |
