EU
countries
implement the Habitat Directive and Birds Directive by assigning
Special Protection Areas which together constitute the Natura 2000
network. Natura 2000 gives an important legal base and impulse to
nature conservation and restoration. Between EU-members a considerable
diversity exists of underlying methods for defining the conservation
status.
Objectives of the session are
sharing the different approaches to: (1) define the conservation status
of habitat types and species (2) link the Natura 2000 network to
ecological restoration goals and perspectives (3) define the needs of
Natura 2000 for restoration science and skills.
