The Mathematics and Natural Sciences Faculty (MNF) is divided into the following institutes:
- Subject area Biology - with the Biological Station Hiddensee, the Botanical Institute and Botanical Garden, the Institute for Microbiology, Genetics and Biotechnology and the Zoological Institute and Museum with the Ornithological Station, Hiddensee
- Institute for Chemistry and Biochemistry
- Institute for Geography and Geology
- Institute for Mathematics and Information Technology
- Pharmacy Institute
- Physics Institute
Physics Institute
The Mathematics and Natural Sciences Faculty has a leading involvement in four of the five main research areas of the University, namely 'Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine and Biotechnology', 'Natural Ecology and Resource Protection', 'the Baltic Sea Area' and 'Plasma Physics'. These focuses are conducted very successfully (DFG-Graduate Programmes, foundation chairs, DFG-Special Research Area, DFG-Research Groups, EU-Network).
