Preparatory Study Programme
The preparatory study programme for foreign students is a central facility of Greifswald University. Here, foreign applicants are prepared for study at German universities and colleges. Foreign applicants whose university entrance qualifications are not equivalent to the German Abitur must pass the equivalence exam before they can begin studying.
The programme offers three courses as preparation for this exam, the subjects contained in each of which vary according to the later area of study. These are; the G-/S- course, the M-course and the T-course.
Each course is extended over two semesters, each of which can at the most be repeated once. Particularly able students have the opportunity to sit the equivalence exam after a single semester. It is also possible to take the exam externally, without having participated in the programme beforehand.
Successful completion of the programme enables the student to study at any German university or college.
Before applicants join the programme an entry test is held, the level of which is roughly equivalent to that of middle school. As preparation for the latest entry test we will also be offering a language course.
Individual Support
The programme is currently attended by about 130 applicants from 25 countries, who are divided into six seminar groups. The programme being a facility of the university, the applicants are enrolled as students at the university during the course. The applicants are taught by a total of nine members of teaching staff. Each group contains between 10 and a maximum of 20 students.
This relatively small number of students enables a close level of contact with the teaching staff, which in turn enables individual support when problems arise.
The costs of study (semester fees, rent etc) in Greifswald are among the lowest in Germany. Detailed information is provided by Greifswald's Student Administration and the University's International Office. Working closely with Student Administration, the study programme is currently able to offer all students participating in the programme a place in the University's student accommodation. This is not a right of the student, however.
