The Lithuanian Ambassador visited the University of Greifswald’s Department of Baltic Studies and held conversations with members of staff. He then had a meeting with the Rectorate to discuss the key fields of research and possible collaboration.

In the evening, he took part in a podium discussion on the expansion of the EU 20 years ago in the university’s Aula. This event also marked the start of the lecture series on (Changing) Images, Narratives and Perspectives – 20 Years of EU Enlargement to the East. The accession of ten countries in 2004 fundamentally changed the geopolitical landscape of the Baltic Sea region. As the EU expansion was celebrated as the conquest of the division of Europe, the lecture series shall focus on the change in the mutual perception of the interconnected countries since 2004. Prof. Margit Bussmann (Greifswald) and Prof. Stefan Troebst (Leipzig) joined the Ambassador and the guests to discuss the extent to which these political changes are (re)shaping coexistence in the region. The discussion round was hosted by Prof. Clemens Räthel from the University of Greifswald.
