At the University of Greifswald’s Department of Church Music and Musicology, Chair of Church Music / Organ, in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, there is a job vacancy expected to be available from 1 September 2024, subject to budgetary regulations, for a full-time member of

Artistic Staff / künstlerische*r Mitarbeiter*in
(akademische*r Rätin*Rat).

The position on offer is permanent and suitable for part-time employment.

The post has been rated with pay grade A13. If the successful candidate is able to fulfil the requirements pursuant to civil service law, the University will employ them as a civil servant in higher service (zweites Einstiegsamt der Laufbahngruppe 2) with a specialisation in research. Otherwise, they shall be employed as a public employee in accordance with pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft.

The Department of Church Music and Musicology provides degree courses for Church musicians (Diplom / Bachelor), instrumentalists, and musicologists, as well as postgraduate degree courses (organ, organ improvisation, choir conducting). Artistic skills are taught in one-to-one lessons (organ literature, improvisation, piano, singing, conducting, harpsichord, score playing, basso continuo). Some of these classes are to be held by the future holder of the advertised position.

Job Description:

  • Academic tasks mainly in the field of teaching pursuant to the state regulations stipulated in the LVVO M‑V (currently planned: 20 weekly teaching hours during the lecture periods)
  • One-to-one lessons in organ literature, improvisation, jazz-rock piano, score playing, and basso continuo.
  • Assistance in the organisation and playing of academic church services, recitals and concerts (also accompaniment).
  • Assistance in the organisation and execution of excursions/study trips
  • Participation in artistic exams.

Job requirements:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Church Music, if applicable, advanced exams in organ improvisation and/or organ literature
  • This civil service post will only be conferred if the successful candidate is qualified to serve as a civil servant in higher service, performing academic duties. If they are unable to provide the required professional qualifications for higher service, an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent in Church Music) and at least two years and six months of full-time employment in a relevant field can also be recognised as equivalent professional qualification. The details are defined in § 14(4) Landesbeamtengesetz - LBG M-V (State Civil Service Act) and § 12 Allgemeine Laufbahnverordnung - ALVO M-V (General Career Path Ordinance for Civil Servants).

Further knowledge and skills that will play an important role in the filling of this post in higher civil service are:

  • Several years of experience as a church musician
  • International concert experience
  • Experience in teaching of organ literature/improvisation

Desirable:

  • English language skills (B2)
