At the University of Greifswald’s Department of History at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, there is a job vacancy expected to be available from 1 October 2024, subject to budgetary regulations, for a full-time

Teaching and Research Assistant
(akademische*r Rätin*Rat).

The position on offer is permanent and suitable for part-time employment.

The post has been rated with pay grade A13. If the successful candidate is able to fulfil the requirements pursuant to civil service law, the University will employ them as a civil servant in higher service (zweites Einstiegsamt der Laufbahngruppe 2) with a specialisation in research. Otherwise, they shall be employed as a public employee in accordance with pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft.

Job Description:

  • Provision of academic services, predominantly in teaching; teaching obligations are based on the LVVO M-V (currently planned: 12 classes (à 45 min. per week per semester)
  • Preparation, holding, and supervision of classes, including exams and assessments, in the fields of medieval history and early modern history as part of the degree courses taught at the Department of History
  • Collaboration in academic administration, fulfillment of tasks related to the running of the Department of History, and supervision of dissertations
  • Independent research

Job requirements:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in history or a related discipline
  • This civil service post will only be conferred if the successful candidate is qualified to serve as a civil servant in higher service, performing academic duties. If they are unable to provide the required professional qualifications for higher service, an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent in history or a related discipline) and at least two years and six months of full-time employment in a relevant field can also be recognised as equivalent professional qualification. The details are defined in § 14(4) Landesbeamtengesetz - LBG M-V (State Civil Service Act) and § 12 Allgemeine Laufbahnverordnung - ALVO M-V (General Career Path Ordinance for Civil Servants).

Further knowledge and skills that will play an important role in the filling of this post in higher civil service are:

  • Doctorate (all of the examinations must have been completed successfully prior to the start of employment) in history based on the period of 1200-1700
  • In-depth knowledge of both medieval and early modern history
  • Teaching experience at universities

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of auxiliary sciences of history
  • Period of stay abroad during studies or work
  • Good German language skills (B2)
