From 10 April 2012 the will be offering guided tours through the university's baroque Aula (assembly hall) and Karzer (campus prison) – conspicuous by its student graffiti - on a daily basis. The one-hour-tour aims to give visitors an insight into the Pommeranian, Swedish and Prussian history of Northern Germany's second-oldest university, then known as Universitatis Gryphiswaldensis. Visitors will meet on Rubenow-Platz at 3.00 p.m. No booking in advance required. Admission: € 5/ € 3,50 (student discount).

The Centre for Research Support (ZFF) helps scientists to apply for grants and scholarships, and assists in creating links between the university and the business world, e.g. within the frame of the Siemens Centre of Knowledge Interchange (CKI). A Welcome Centre was established in order to welcome international scientists to Greifswald and to support them in various ways during their stay here.

Research and teaching greatly benefit from the intensive contact with internationally leading research institutions in Greifswald, e.g. the Friedrich Loeffler Institute, the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Research and Technology, and the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics. Much of the internationally noted collaboration of researchers from Greifswald with researchers from around the globe is generously supported by the Alfried Krupp Institute of Advanced Study.

Students and scientists benefit from the University of Greifswald's cooperation agreements with institutions across the world. International activities such as research cooperation or student exchange are coordinated by the International Office. The Welcome Centre welcomes international scientists and assists them before and during their stay.
