Somatic recombination of the B cell receptor genes

Introduction
Antibody responses can be elicited by almost any substance. This is explained by the extraordinary diversity of antibodies in every individual. The total number of different antibodies amounts to at least 1011. However, there are only about 30 000 genes in the human genome.

The important question
Which molecular mechanisms allow the generation of the enormous antibody repertoire in an individual?
