Measuring cell proliferation

Introduction
There are different ways to measure cell proliferation. Recently, cell staining and flow cytometric evaluation has become the method of choice for many experimental settings. There are two main reasons for this:

1. It is possible to determine the proliferation history on a single cell basis and to correlate it with other features, e.g. the expression of surface molecules.

2. The cell labelling is very stable in vivo. It allows the tracking of adoptively transfered cells as well as their proliferation behaviour in an organism for several weeks.
