Research and Teach in Greifswald

Research and Teach in Greifswald

International academics are welcome at the University of Greifswald!

You can stay in Greifswald for short (up to five days) and long periods of teaching and research.

The periods of stay serve joint research and teaching, as part of existing projects and in preparation of new academic partnerships. Visiting academics receive short-term grants from the University of Greifswald which pay for accommodation in Greifswald.

The International Office offers support regarding possible contact persons, funding opportunities and accommodation in Greifswald.

The Welcome Centre Greifswald is the point of contact for visiting academics and their hosts for any questions prior to or during the stay in Greifswald. It also helps to connect the visiting academics with one another and to other academics at the University of Greifswald.

State Funding for University Partnerships

The University of Greifswald uses daily expenses allowances to promote stays from visiting academics as part of existing projects and in preparation of new university partnerships. Every year in December, academics from Greifswald can submit requests to the International Office for start-up and partial funding of partnership activities for the coming year, via the electronic questionnaire for international activities. We also use our remaining funds to try to support visits which are planned with short notice during the course of the year.

"Ostpartnerschaften" (Eastern Partnerships)

Academics from partner universities wanting to do short-term periods of research can also be funded by the Ostpartnerschaften [de] programme. Applications and nominations for this exchange programme are always made at the beginning of the year to the International Offices of the home universities.

For longer-term teaching visits, the DAAD offers a visiting lecturer programme: Funding of Foreign Visiting Lecturers for Teaching [de] at German universities. This programme enables the funding of visiting lecturers and visiting professors from any area of expertise from anywhere in the world. Funding can be granted for up to two years for visiting lecturers and a maximum of four years for visiting professors. Visiting lecturers and visiting professors expand the regular teaching activities with international perspectives and allow students to gain international learning experience at their home universities.

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

Long-term research periods can also be funded by the various programmes on offer from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

At the University of Greifswald, there is a Regional Group of the Deutsche Gesellschaft der Humboldtianer e.V., which has set itself the goal of maintaining the international contacts of Greifswald’s Humboldtianer and supporting international Humboldtianer in Greifswald.

The German Polish Academic Foundation (DPWS)

The DPWS [de] aims to improve the cooperation between students, academics and researchers from Germany and Poland by supporting innovative projects in both countries.
