Theatre, Stage and Festivals
The music festival, Festspiele MV, takes place every summer in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: international classical musicians and up and coming talents play music in the state’s mansions, parks, churches and monasteries, as well as barns and industrial warehouses. Apart from the Festspiele MV, the state’s theatre companies are particularly popular: The Theatre in Putbus and the Vorpommersche Landesbühne put on productions throughout the year. During the summer, the open-air stages attract spectators: Vineta-Festspiele on Usedom, Störtebeker-Festspiele on Rügen or the Pirates Action Openair Theater in Grevesmühlen.
The Usedomer Musikfestival and the Schönberger Musiksommer are amongst the state’s musical highlights.
Learn more about Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in one of the region’s many museums. The Müritzeum in Waren (Müritz) or the Ozeaneum in Stralsund give insights into the nature and environment of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - above all into the sea and the region’s many lakes and rivers. The Darwineum in Rostock takes you on a trip through evolution and the Staatliche Museum in Schwerin / Ludwigslust / Güstrow is home to a collection which ranges from the ancient world up until contemporary art.
The state’s technological history is also presented in two museums: The Historical Technical Museum on the former military test site in Peenemünde shows the ambivalence of the use and risks of technological developments. The phanTECHNIKUM in Wismar looks at the elements of fire, air, water and earth and uses these to describe the region’s technological history.
