Prof. Dr. Katharina Riedel is New Pro-Rector at the University of Greifswald

Professor Dr. Katharina Riedel has been Chair of Microbiology at the University of Greifswald since October 2011. From 2011 to 2013 she was Deputy Managing Director of Greifswald’s Institute of Microbiology, since July 2013 she has been Managing Director of the Institute.

Mrs. Riedel studied Biology at the Technical University (TU) of Munich between 1988 and 1994.  From 1994 to 1998 Prof. Riedel worked on and received her doctorate at the TU Munich’s Institute of Microbiology.

As part of a postdoc scholarship, Prof. Dr. Riedel did research at the Technical University of Denmark in Lyngby from 1999 to 2000. In the following years she led research groups focussing on “Bacterial Proteomics” in Munich and Zurich. In 2006 Professor Riedel was habilitated with the topic “Global Gene Regulation in Gram-Negative Bacteria: Proteomics to Investigate Quorum Sensing-Regulated und Surface-Induced Phenotypes”. In July 2010 Prof. Dr. Riedel accepted the professorial position offered to her at the University of Braunschweig, where she researched and taught until September 2011.
