Approximately 29 % of the freshers come from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Roughly 37 percent of the new students come from former West Germany and slightly more than seven percent come from Berlin. 181 new enrolees are foreign nationals. The University of Greifswald currently has a total of 10,196 students. Approximately 800 of these come from a total of 96 countries.
Similar to previous years, both medicine and dentistry, but also courses in psychology and human biology, which all have admission restrictions, were particularly sought after. Law degrees, but also degree courses in business administration and political science were amongst the most popular courses with no admission restrictions. Students were able to select two new degree courses: the master’s degree course in Business Administration and the first international master’s double degree in ‘Language and Communication: International’.
‘We are currently developing a number of new international degree courses with which we aim to attract more international students. This is an area in which we still have a great deal of potential,’ says Rector Prof. Dr. Johanna Weber.
The prizes for excellent teaching shall be awarded at the opening ceremony. A jury selected the three prizewinners from a list of recommendations that had been submitted by the students.
