The University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences invites applications for a
Professorship (W3) of Peatland Sciences
for appointment at the earliest possible date. The position on offer shall be located at the Institute of Botany and Landscape Ecology.
We are seeking an internationally recognised expert with a strong research record in peatland science and experience in one or more of these topics: Biogeochemistry, ecohydrology, paleoecology, biodiversity research, ecosystem ecology and ecosystem services, restoration ecology. The continuation of basic and applied research related to paludiculture, which is one of the current research directions at the Institute of Botany and Landscape Ecology, is a viable option. Participation in local joint research projects such as the State Excellence project ‘Wetscapes’, the DFG Research Training Group 2010 ‘Biological RESPONSEs to Novel and Changing Environments’ (www.uni-greifswald.de/forschen/response) and the University’s key field of research ‘Environmental Change: Responses and Adaptation (ECRA)’ (www.uni-greifswald.de/forschung/ecra) is expected. The candidate will be asked to contribute scientifically to the Greifswald Mire Centre (GMC) and represent the university and the Department of Biology in the GMC.
The successful applicant is expected to participate in teaching (8h per week in each semester) in the bachelor degree courses ‘Biology’ and ‘Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation’ and the master degree courses ‘Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation’, ‘Biodiversity and Ecology’ as well as ‘Earth Sciences’. We expect the candidates to be able to teach in English as well as in German (after a transition period). The candidate should be willing to work in academic committees. International experience is desirable.
Applicants must fulfill the requirements for a university professor according to Paragraph 58(1) of the Landeshochschulgesetz (State Higher Education Law) Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: a university degree at PhD level, independent teaching and research experience as proven by a junior professorship, habilitation or other equivalent achievements. In accordance with § 61 LHG M-V, the appointed professor will be assigned the status of a civil servant (Beamtenverhältnis) with unlimited tenure; alternatively, if the applicant is not permanently available: limited tenure as a civil servant or public service employee.
This vacancy is open to all applicants, irrespective of gender.
