Structural and mechanistic studies on the dynamin GTPase

Dynamin is a mechano-chemical GTPase that oligomerizes at the neck of clathrin-coated vesicles and catalyzes vesicle scission in a GTP hydrolysis dependent fashion. Here, I discuss our structural analyses on various dynamin superfamily members, which clarifies the mode of assembly and its membrane-dependent activation. Using a combination of biochemical and computational approaches, I present a mechanistic model for the action of dynamin at the vesicle neck.
