The talk focuses on the defiant as well as the deviant bodies in the short stories of Sadat Hasan Manto to analyze the spectrum of violence and its portrayal in South Asian literature. Focusing on Manto’s stories that are set in the background of one of the most turbulent times in the history of South Asia, namely the partition of India, the talk explores the intersection of bodies, violence, and human psyche to arrive at a nuanced understanding of the effects of cultural trauma.
