How does the University Work?

You will take part in a guided tour of the Old Town Campus. Student tour guides from the Kustodie (University Collections) report on everything future students should know about the structures and facilities of the university.

Stadt-Land-Uni - History of the University’s Buildings in the Old Town

The university's close ties to properties in Greifswald's Old Town have grown over the centuries. The guided tour shows the building history from the late Middle Ages to the 21st century.

If the Greifswald Culture Night is cancelled, the video "Stadt-Land-Uni" will be available as an alternative.

LECTURE: A room partition? A pinboard? – “Students in the Socialist Society“

Dr. Thilo Habel, Art Historian

Wolfgang Frankenstein painted the “Students in the Socialist Society” between 1972 and 1976. Being 22 metres long, the monumental painting has been too big to be noticed and valued by students as a design element in the foyer of the post-war modern Mensa am Schießwall for the past four decades.

GUIDED TOUR: "Bauhaus and Israel"

Dr. Karin Berkemann, curator of the collection

Approximately 100 years ago, the Palestine expert Gustaf Dalman, collected everything he considered special in this cultural landscape. From everyday objects to up to 20,000 historical photos. During the guided tour “Bauhaus and Israel”, Dr. Karin Berkemann will explain how the new building style had made its way across the Mediterranean Sea. With photos of Jewish settlements from the 1920s, the collection will take you back to a time when German architects were helping to shape the development of the new state.This will be followed by savoury snacks.
