Equality reports
Once a year, the Gender Equality Officer publishes the University of Greifswald’s Equalty Report.
This report examines, on the one hand, developments in equal opportunities policy at the university and, on the other, the events, initiatives and collaborative projects organised by the Equality Office.
Below, we invite you to read the Equal Opportunities Reports from previous years.
“We’re turning 50! Female professors at the University of Greifswald on the path to gender parity”
We are delighted to present to you, in May 2025, the third update to the brochure “We’re Turning 50! – Female Professors at the University of Greifswald on the Path to Parity”.
The publication “We’re 50” was first published to mark the appointment of the 50th female professor at the University of Greifswald in August 2021. Since then, the online version of the publication has been continuously updated.
The number of female professors has now risen to over 70, meaning that women account for 30 per cent of professorships, which is in line with the national average. There is therefore still some way to go before parity is achieved – reason enough to update the title of our publication and the corresponding project to reflect our current objectives.
Second edition of the guide to gender-neutral language
The second edition of the guide to gender-neutral language provides practical and up-to-date guidance on how to use gender-neutral language confidently and consistently in a higher education context.
It is in line with the binding Senate resolution of the University of Greifswald, which applies to all official documents and official/public communications (further details can be found in the FAQ section at the bottom of the website) within the University of Greifswald and its institutions.
Furthermore, this guide is intended as a stimulating and informative resource for all members of the university community who wish to engage more deeply with gender-sensitive language.
The revised version takes into account current social developments, ongoing discussions, as well as experiences, feedback and enquiries from within the university community.
This guide provides:
- explanations and overviews on the use of gender-neutral language and the gender star,
- practical tips and examples of how to choose appropriate expressions,
- guidance on the use of compound terms (compounds),
- options for the linguistically sensitive use of academic degrees and titles,
- information on recording gender for statistical and administrative purposes,
- Basic guidance on gender-neutral language in English.
- as well as a comprehensive glossary of frequently used terms from the higher education context, which helps readers find their way around quickly.
Note: PDF files are best viewed in two-page mode.

No Go! Campaign
The No Go! campaign is a prevention project run by the University of Greifswald, which was launched in 2018 to combat sexual discrimination and violence.
The initiative was launched as a joint project between Ruth Terodde, the Gender Equality Officer, and the Caspar David Friedrich Institute at the University of Greifswald. The aim of the campaign is to create a respectful and safe environment for all members of the university community through awareness-raising, information and training.
