The University’s Research Strategy

The strategy consolidates both the interdisciplinary, interfaculty, and inter-institutional principles, as well as applied research. It emphasises unique selling points and is based on existing research strengths and the individual expertise of excellent researchers.

The strategy strengthens both the national and international visibility of Greifswald as a research location towards various stakeholders and supports the university’s own claim to excellence.
Moreover, the strategy sets out the University of Greifswald’s responsibility for the transfer of knowledge into the economy and society.
The bringing together of socially-relevant research and research-led teaching also increases the University of Greifswald’s attractiveness as a study location.
By implementing the strategy, the University enhances its relevance for the region and the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, promotes tolerance and sets future-oriented impulses for civil society.

The current Research Strategy was passed by the University Senate on 15 May 2024.
