Greifswald Researcher Receives German Environmental Award 2024
Dr Franziska Tanneberger from the University of Greifswald is to receive the German Environmental Award from the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) 2024. The award honours one of the world’s most influential researchers in the field of peatlands and her role for the climate and biodiversity. The Head of the Greifswald Mire Centre (GMC) is considered a driving force in the revitalisation of peatlands and as a bridge-builder for science, politics and agriculture. Dr. Tanneberger will share the award money that amounts to a total of € 500,000 with Diplom-Ingenieur Thomas Speidel from Nürtingen, near Stuttgart. Federal President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, will present the DBU’s German Environmental Award to both award winners on 27 October in Mainz.
