Universities are places for open exchange, scientific curiosity and critical thinking. Freedom of science, open-mindedness and internationality are crucial for this.That is why the University of Greifswald is firmly committed to providing an open-minded, supportive and free scientific university culture. When these values come under threat, we take joint action.’

Information on ‘Hochschulen zeigen Haltung’
The nationwide ‘Hochschulen zeigen Haltung’ campaign started in October 2025 as a joint initiative of various networks, including the Netzwerk Antidiskriminierung an Hochschulen (Antidiscrimination in Higher Education Network) [de], the Netzwerk Diversity an Hochschulen (Diversity in Higher Education Network) [de], and the Bundeskonferenz der Frauen- und Gleichstellungsbeauftragten an Hochschulen (Federal Conference of Women’s and Gender Equality Officers at Universities) [de].
Together, the partners of the alliance wish to convey a clear statement and commitment to fundamental democratic values, whilst also raising awareness of recent political developments and the threats these pose to a democratic and supportive university culture.
Universities thrive on diversity, openness and critical debate. When these values are under threat, we must act together.
