The newly founded Greifswald Alliance for Democracy has set itself the objective of strengthening its joint support of democratic values and opposition of right-wing extremism. The initiators include Lord Mayor, Dr. Stefan Fassbinder, and the Rector of the university, Prof. Dr. Katharina Riedel, owner of the CHEPLAPHARM Group Sebastian Braun, the Bishop of the Diocese Mecklenburg and Pomerania, Tilman Jeremias, and Dr. Dirk-Carsten Mahlitz from Greifswald’s Stadtsportbund (association of sports clubs). The Alliance has already gained the support of almost 50 organisations, institutions and companies.
It is organising a demonstration for Sunday, 25 February 2024 at 2.00 p.m. on Greifswald’s Market Square and asks locals to set a clear sign for democracy and diversity, and against right-wing extremism.
“We are joining forces to show that the town stands for democracy and diversity,” says Rector of the University of Greifswald, Prof. Dr. Katharina Riedel.
