Japanese Sports Day in Greifswald
Come along with your fellow students, colleagues and friends to the Japanese Sports Day in Greifswald!
The traditional ‘Undokai’ isn’t about individual performers, but about team spirit, fun and a bit of competitive spirit – whether you’re a first-year student or a lecturer.
You can register as a team (see team sizes below) or as an individual. In the latter case, the organisers will assign you to a team.
Disciplines
Chicken and Caterpillar (5 people) at 10:00
Each team consists of 5 people standing in single file, holding onto each other’s shoulders. The person at the front takes on the role of the chicken, whilst the person at the back takes on the role of the caterpillar, tucking a handkerchief into their waistband. The team that is first to grab the caterpillar’s tail (the handkerchief) wins.
Ball-throwing game (6 people) at 11.15 am
Each team consists of 6 players, one of whom carries a basket. Balls of various colours are scattered on the ground. A team must throw these into the opposing team’s basket. Only the ball colour matching the basket counts. The team that has scored the most correct balls in the opposing team’s basket wins.
Obstacle course (4 people) at 1.00 pm
As in a relay race, the aim here is to pass the baton to a team-mate. Before doing so, the following tasks must be completed:
- 1st runner: Carry a ball on a spoon
- 2nd runner: Spin round a stick 10 times and then set off
- 3rd runner: Carry a glass of water on a tray without spilling any
- 4th runner: Find a sweet in a pile of flour without using your hands
‘Borrowed Items’ Race (not a team event, so registration must be done in person at the festival) at 2.00 pm
Pick a card with an item on it from a basket and run across the finish line with it. The first to reach the finish line wins.
Relay race (4 people) at 3.00 pm
In this race, team members pass the baton to their teammates after 200 metres. The team whose final runner crosses the finish line first wins.
