The internship in the Directorate General Monetary Policy is aimed at applicants holding a bachelor’s degree or higher in economics, finance, econometrics, mathematics, statistics, data science, social sciences, or a related field. Applicants are expected to have practical programming skills, for example in Python, R, MATLAB, Stata, or SQL, experience working with economic or financial data, and a good understanding of monetary policy issues. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel, English proficiency at C1 level, and proficiency in another official EU language at least at B1 level are also required.
Depending on their area of assignment, interns work on the analysis of capital markets and financing structures or on the ECB’s monetary policy strategy. Responsibilities include preparing and analysing economic and financial data, developing automated data processes and analytical tools, and contributing to quantitative research projects and publications.
The full-time internship initially lasts six months and may be extended to a maximum of twelve months. A flexible start date is available from spring 2027. The monthly remuneration is €1,170, plus a possible accommodation allowance.
Applicants must be nationals of an EU Member State and meet the eligibility requirements of the traineeship programme. The application deadline is 20 October 2026. The selection process includes an online interview.
