The internships in the Forecasting and Policy Modelling Division are aimed at students and graduates with strong quantitative skills and an interest in economic policy research. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in economics, statistics, finance, data science, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field. They are also expected to have programming skills, experience working with large datasets and macroeconomic models, and a good understanding of data analysis and visualisation. English proficiency at C1 level and proficiency in another official EU language at least at B1 level are required.
Responsibilities include developing and maintaining economic models, contributing to macroeconomic forecasts for the euro area and its largest member states, and preparing and analysing economic and financial data. Interns also support research projects and contribute to academic publications.
Two remuneration levels are available: €1,170 per month for applicants holding a bachelor’s degree or higher, and €2,120 per month for applicants holding a master’s degree and having completed at least two years of doctoral studies. A possible accommodation allowance is available in both cases. The full-time internship initially lasts six months and may be extended to a maximum of twelve months.
Applicants must be nationals of an EU Member State and meet the eligibility requirements. Applicants for the PhD traineeship must also submit a two-page summary of their research proposal, explaining its relevance to the division. The selection process includes an online interview.
The application deadline is 20 October 2026. Further information on the requirements and application procedure is available on the European Central Bank’s website.
