Historical Greenhouses

The historical greenhouses consist of a tropical house, palm house and palm fern house. However, due to renovation work, the buildings are not open for visitors. After the renovation work has been completed, the historical greenhouses will focus on tropical ecosystems.

Public Greenhouses

At the moment, you can visit the following greenhouses: the connector building, fern house, show house, succulents’ house and the water plant house. The greenhouses are home to bromeliads, carnivorous plants, cacti, water lilies, sugar cane plants, papyrus plants and passion flowers.

Outside Area

In the outside area surrounding the greenhouses you can find sections for spice plants, medicinal plants, an alpine garden as well as a collection of water plants and grasses. In summer, you can take a stroll through the subtropical sclerophyll vegetation with laurels, olive trees, cork oaks and many other tub plants.

Arboretum

In the Arboretum you can explore more than 1,600 different types of woody plants from Asia, America and Europe on a path that is 3.5 km long. The Arboretum was founded in 1934 in the Friedrich-Ludiwg-Jahn-Straße and is adjacent to the Berthold-Beitz-Platz Campus. The garden was expanded in the 1960s and again in 1972.
