Call for donations: We’re looking for old laptops!

Dear colleagues,

the Export Control Office at the University of Greifswald wishes to establish a pool of loan devices for business trips to and via so-called ‘critical countries’. The goal is to provide simple yet effective protection: by making dedicated loan devices available, we prevent our standard work laptops from being exposed to an increased risk of viruses, Trojans or unauthorised data access whilst on business trips to critical states. Do you or your department still have laptops in your collection that are too slow for modern high-end applications but are still fully functional as reliable office devices?

We are looking for devices that:
• are suitable for simple office tasks (emails, internet, word processing).
• have a battery life of around 1 to 3 hours and come with a mains adaptor.
(The manufacturer and operating system are irrelevant.)

Please remember to back up your personal and work-related data before handing them in. You are welcome to hand the devices over to us already wiped – if not, that’s no problem: we will carry out a professional and secure deletion of all old data following handover anyway.

With your donation, you are making a valuable contribution to the digital resilience of our university of applied sciences (UAS) whilst also promoting the sustainable use of hardware.

We are grateful for every device.

Thank you very much and best regards.
