According to the reasons for the decision, Dr. Jackelén manages in senior and the most senior of church offices, to answer challenges of the northern European civil and knowledge societies with targeted, critically founded contributions to discussions “without bearing a clerical attitude”.
In Archbishop Dr. Antje Jackelén, the Faculty of Theology at the University of Greifswald is honouring a woman who joins international academic brilliance, academic multilingualism and a discourse horizon which exceeds her own subject knowledge by far with a piety that has strong roots in the hymnological traditions of the Christianities; who manages in senior and the most senior of church offices to answer current challenges of the northern European civil and knowledge societies with targeted, critically founded contributions to discussions without bearing a clerical attitude; who gives Protestantism and its academic, reformatory and humanistic heritage an unmistakable public voice of orientation in a situation which is new in many respects to religious history.
