The Deutscher Preis für Denkmalschutz is regarded as Germany’s highest honour in this field. It has been awarded since 1978. The prizewinner, Dr. Karin Berkemann, works as curator of the Gustaf Dalman Collection at the University of Greifswald’sFaculty of Theology. The online magazine about the architecture of the 20th Century has been published since May 2014 and is edited pro bono by Daniel Bartetzko, Karin Berkemann and (up until August 2018) C. Julius Reinsberg. The range of topics includes architecture, urban development, landscaping, design, photography and percent for art schemes.

The DNK explains that the prize is to be awarded for the 'website www.moderne-regional.de, which as a news medium, has looked at the cultural landscape of post-war modernism since 2014, presenting its diverse and varied facets with scholarly precision and in a manner suited to the medium. It focusses not only on listed, but also on non-listed buildings and architectural details. By presenting its content in short articles, event announcements and the associated online-magazine, the website, which also uses social media, is an impressive source of architectural news and information. The website and the online-magazine support the public relations measures of the authorities concerned with the protection of historical monuments when making the population aware of monuments from the post-war decades.'
