Deutschlandstipendium: the University of Greifswald Awards Scholarships to More than 100 Outstanding Students for the First Time

“The impressive number of 113 scholarships – as in previous years – is an all-time high. This not only reflects the attractiveness of the programme, but also the considerable dedication shown by many individuals, companies, and institutions in support of our university and its students. This is something that must not be underestimated in these economically and financially challenging times,” said Prof. Dr. Daniel Schiller, Pro-Rector for Research and Transfer at the University of Greifswald, who greeted the guests on behalf of the Rectorate.

Financial support creates opportunities and strengthens the community
The University of Greifswald has been providing support to particularly high-achieving and dedicated students ever since the Deutschlandstipendium was introduced to the university in 2011. In addition to excellent study achievements, the selection procedure also considers community work and special personal circumstances. The provided funding amounts to 300 euros per month and is financed equally by the Federal Government and private donors. The scholarship is usually granted for one year and provides financial leeway so that students can concentrate on their studies and realise their own ideas.

“The Deutschlandstipendium is far more than merely financial support. It is a sign of recognition, trust and encouragement,” stressed Prof. Schiller. Proof that the support has an impact beyond the individual scholarships is documented by student initiatives such as a Stammtisch (social gathering) for scholarship holders, a Science Slam, and the involvement in the student Peatland Congress. “The Deutschlandstipendium not only supports individual success, it also strengthens the community, solidarity, and a sense of responsibility – and these are essential for fostering a vibrant university,” according to the Pro-Rector.

Scholarships for completing studies open up new opportunities
The 50 scholarships provided to students for completing their studies by the Kuhlmann Foundation play a special role. They are intended for students in the second half of their studies and should help them to successfully complete the final phase of their degrees. The donor Edmund Kuhlmann, who passed away at the age of 96 on 24 August 2026, was particularly committed to supporting students in this crucial phase of their university studies. He was awarded the University of Greifswald’s Medal of Honour earlier on this year.

The University of Greifswald would like to thank the 38 donors that include companies, foundations, associations, and private sponsors, who are providing funding for this year’s Deutschlandstipendium scholarships:
