Dr. Anne-Kathrin Rühr studied Jurisprudence at the University of Greifswald and the Tomsk State University. During her studies, Dr. Rühr was already involved in various constitutional issues as a student assistant at two of the Faculty’s chairs. After passing her first law exam, she worked as a research fellow at the Chair of Public Law, European Law and Comparative Law (North East Europe) at the University of Greifswald (Prof. Dr. Uwe Kischel). She completed her dissertation with a two-year state graduate scholarship from the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Landesgraduiertenstipendium). Having completed her second state law examination, Dr. Anne-Kathrin Rühr now works as an in-house lawyer for Berlin-Chemie/Menarini.

In her dissertation, “Instruments of Individual Protection of Fundamental Rights in the Russian Federation”, Dr. Rühr examined the understanding of fundamental rights with regard to the special characteristics of Russian legal culture, the constitutional guidelines for the protection of fundamental rights and the basic legal instruments of protection in Russia and Germany. The backbone of individual protection of fundamental rights in Russia, as in Germany – although in Russia there are various out-of-court instruments of protection – is the protection of fundamental rights conveyed by court. Dr. Anne-Kathrin Rühr uses this to examine specific problems of Russian judicial power in actual legal practice in detail.

The German-Russian Law Prize has been awarded annually since 2011 by the German-Russian Lawyers Association (DRJV), together with the German-Russian Institute of Law (DRJI) and the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce (AHK).
