Most Cited - Greifswald Scientist at the Top of the Highly Cited Researchers List

Prof. Dr. Werner Weitschies thus belongs to the top one per cent of most cited scientists in the field of pharmacology and toxicology worldwide. He is Professor of Biopharmacy at the Institute of Pharmacy and conducts research in close collaboration with colleagues from the fields of pharmacy and medicine at the University of Greifswald’s interfaculty Center of Drug Absorption and Transport (C_DAT) [de], which he co-founded. His work focuses on the elucidation of interactions between human physiology and drugs in healthy test persons and especially in older people, the development of innovative drug forms based on the understanding of such interactions, such as a novel drug form currently in clinical development for the local treatment of oesophageal diseases (EsoCap), the elucidation, development and application of physiologically based devices, and test procedures for predicting the efficacy and safety of drugs.

The Highly Cited Researchers Ranking is important because it is a recognised and reliable method for identifying outstanding scientists in various scientific disciplines. It is produced by Clarivate Analytics, which specialises in the provision of scientific information services. The ranking is based on a comprehensive analysis of scientific publications and citation data. Inclusion in the ranking signals that scientists have made an exceptional contribution to the respective field of study. It recognises the high quality and relevance of the scientific work. Professor Werner Weitschies' recognition as a "Highly Cited Researcher" bears witness to the University of Greifswald’s support of research excellency.

The Highly Cited Researcher Ranking 2023 honours 7125 scientists from all over the world, 336 of which work in Germany. This puts Germany in fourth place worldwide behind the USA, China and the UK.
