Senate Elects First Female Registrar in the History of the University of Greifswald

Dr. Huwe is already Acting Registrar of the University of Greifswald. “I am very grateful for the trust that has been shown in me. The University of Greifswald is currently faced with a variety of challenges. I am looking forward to continuing my work with the administration and in the Rectorate and am pleased I will be able to pursue topics and projects we have already started. Focus areas of the years to come include the digitisation of the administration and the realisation of the Climate Protection Strategy, but also staff development and dealing with the financial challenges,” said Dr. Juliane Huwe.

The position was advertised publicly. Pursuant to the State Higher Education Act, the election is held following nomination by the Rector, who, in accordance with the university’s Basic Regulations, is advised in her decision by the Registrar Electoral Committee comprising not only the Rector, but also the Chairperson of the Senate, Prof. Dr. Uwe Bornscheuer, as well as one representative each from the group of professors, the students, the academic members of staff, and the administration, as well as the university’s Gender Equality Officer.

About
Dr. Juliane Huwe studied Law at the University of Greifswald. Following completion of her 1stStaatsexamen (State Examination), she worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the Chair of Criminal Law: Commercial Criminal Law and Criminal Tax Law and completed her doctorate in Law in 2005. After successfully finishing her trainee period and passing the 2nd State Examination, she has worked in various positions in the administration of the University of Greifswald since 2008. Dr. Huwe has been Head of the Human Resources and Finances Division since 2018. At the same time, she was Acting Registrar in 2018, taking on the position again in March 2021, which she will hold until she is officially appointed.
