The summer school combines intensive German language classes at various levels of proficiency with workgroups, in which the language skills that have been learned are put to the test, and a diverse offer of cultural events and excursions, for example to Hiddensee, Usedom or Szczecin. From August to October the participants therefore not only improve their German, but also learn more about German culture.
The flexible programme structure makes it possible for participants to select individual modules or to participate in all four modules. The fourth module, in particular, is aimed at providing the necessary language skills to international exchange students, who are commencing studies at the University of Greifswald in winter semester 2018/2019. International visiting academics or refugees are also taking part in Greifswald Summer School and preparing themselves for studies in Greifswald. Pupils at German schools in Brazil, Chile and Vietnam have again been invited to take part in the second and third modules. They have received a DAAD scholarship for their stay in Greifswald. Some of the summer school participants are also taking part in the Ukrainicum in the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg. All of the participants enrich Greifswald’s international community. Greifswald’s students also play a vital role. The summer school would not be possible without their active involvement, organisation and taking care of the guests.
Approximately 75 participants arrived in Greifswald for the kick-off session on Monday. Following the official opening, they were first led around the town and the new campus by university students, before starting their German language classes in the afternoon.
