At the University of Greifswald’s Department of Political Science and Communication Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, there is a job vacancy expected to be available from 1 January 2027, subject to budgetary regulations, for a full-time
Postdoctoral Teaching and Research Associate
(akademische*r Rätin*Rat).
The position on offer is permanent and suitable for part-time employment.
The post has been rated with pay grade A13. If the successful candidate is able to fulfil the requirements pursuant to civil service law, the University will employ them as a civil servant in higher service (zweites Einstiegsamt der Laufbahngruppe 2) with a specialisation in research. Otherwise, they shall be employed as a public employee in accordance with pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft if the personal and pay group specific qualifications can be provided.
Job Description:
- Provision of academic services, predominantly in teaching in the degree courses on offer at the Department, especially in the teacher-training degree course for social studies (in particular planning, realisation and follow-up of courses); with a special focus on the sociological foundations of political education. Teaching obligations are based on the LVVO M-V (currently planned: 12 classes à 45 min. per week per semester)
- (continuous) Development of teaching concepts and teaching materials
- Participation in the further development of the teacher-training degree course for social studies
- Participation in the organisational and administrative activities at the Department and in academic self-administration
- Opportunity for independent research in the field of sociology with a theoretical and/or empirical profile
Job requirements:
- Postgraduate university degree (master’s or equivalent) in sociology or a related discipline belonging to the social sciences by the time employment starts
- This civil service post will only be conferred if the successful candidate is qualified to serve as a civil servant in higher service, performing academic duties. If they are unable to provide the required professional qualifications for higher service, a postgraduate university degree and at least two years and six months of full-time employment in a relevant field can also be recognised as equivalent professional qualification. The details are defined in § 14(4) Landesbeamtengesetz - LBG M-V (State Civil Service Act) and § 12 Allgemeine Laufbahnverordnung - ALVO M-V (General Career Path Ordinance for Civil Servants)
Further knowledge and skills that will play an important role in the filling of this post in higher civil service are:
- Doctorate (to have been completed successfully prior to the start of employment) in sociology or related social science field
- Proven expertise in sociological theory, social structure analysis, and methods of empirical social research
- Independent sociological research profile relating to key sociological questions, particularly the analysis of social structures and processes, social inequality, political and economic order, or social transformation processes, demonstrated by relevant publications
- Excellent German language skills (at least level C1), both written and spoken
- English language skills (at least level B2)
Desirable:
- Research foci relevant to fields such as political sociology, social structure analysis, economic sociology, sociology of socialisation and education, or related areas
- Proven experience in university teaching in various subfields of sociology and with various examination formats
- Experience in training future teachers of social studies
- Experience in academic self-governance
