Entry Requirements for International Applicants
In order to successfully apply for a full degree course at the University of Greifswald, please make sure that you meet all the entry requirements:
1. Higher Education Entrance Qualification
In order for your application to the University of Greifswald to be successful, you will need a recognised higher education entrance qualification.
The following databases provide information on how your foreign higher education entrance qualification compares to the German education system:
There are two types of higher education entrance qualifications: a direct general higher education entrance qualification (entitles to apply for all subjects) and a direct subject-specific higher education entrance qualification (entitles to apply for the respective subject area).
If your foreign school-leaving certificate does not qualify for direct admission to a degree course, a subject-specific higher education entrance qualification can be acquired retrospectively by successfully completing several years of study at a university in your home country or by completing one of the German preparatory courses at a ‘Studienkolleg’ by successfully passing the ‘Feststellungsprüfung’.
2. German Language Proficiency
These following certificates are accepted as proof of German language proficiency at Level C2 (CEFR):
- DSH Level 3 (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber)
- TestDaF Level 5 in all disciplines (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache)
- Goethe Certificate C2
- German examination as part of the ‘Feststellungsprüfung’

The University of Greifswald offers fee-based preparatory German courses (DSH) at levels B2-C2 (CEFR).
Step 1: Apply via Uni-Assist
Apply via Uni-Assist for a degree course and, at the same time, for admission to a preparatory German course. Upload your German language proficiency certificate at level B1 (at least) prior to the Uni-Assist application deadline.

Step 2: Pass the entrance test
If you fulfill all academic entry qualifications for your chosen degree course and provided evidence of German language proficiency at least at level B1 (CEFR), you will be invited to an entrance test. This test is free of charge and takes place once per semester (for winter intake: in September; for summer intake: in March). It needs to be taken in person at the University of Greifswald.

4. Special Requirements for Non-EU/Non-EEA nationals: Human Medicine and Dentistry
Non-EU/Non-EEA nationals applying for a study place in the 1st semester in the subjects of Human Medicine and Dentistry must fulfil the following additional requirements:
- certificate ‘TestAS’ (Test for Academic Studies):
core test at least 50 % / core module at least 100 points, - foreign secondary school leaving certificate with a minimum grade of ‘good’ (2.5 or better).
If applicants have successfully completed a preparatory course at a ‘Studienkolleg’, the following requirement applies in addition to the above-mentioned additional requirements:
- ‘Feststellungsprüfung’ with a minimum grade of ‘good’ (2.5 or better).
