At the University of Greifswald’s Department of Educational Science, Professorship for Special Educational Needs and Inclusion in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, there is a job vacancy, expected to be available from 1 January 2027, subject to budgetary regulations, for a full-time 

Teaching Associate
(akademische*r Rätin*Rat).

The position on offer is permanent. The position is suitable for part-time employment. The post has been rated with pay grade A13 BBesO. If the successful candidate is able to fulfil the requirements pursuant to civil service law, the University will aim to employ them as a civil servant in higher service (zweites Einstiegsamt der Laufbahngruppe 2), performing academic duties. Otherwise, they shall be employed as a public employee in accordance with pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft.

An ‘Inclusive Education’ area will be introduced to the ‘Primary Education’ degree course in winter semester 2026/2027. The position’s teaching and research responsibilities will be based within this area of the degree and the special educational needs and inclusive education components of the educational sciences.

Job responsibilities:

  • Academic services are to be provided primarily in the field of special educational needs and inclusion; teaching duties are governed by the LVVO M-V (currently envisaged: 12 teaching hours à 45 min. per week per semester)
  • Conducting module and final examinations, and supervising theses
  • Leading research projects at the Professorship for Special Educational Needs and Inclusion
  • Producing national and international publications
  • Independently applying for third-party funded projects
  • Tasks in academic self-governance

Job requirements:

  • A completed university degree in teaching by the time employment begins (1st State Examination: Special Educational Needs, Primary Education, Secondary Education for Gymnasium, Secondary Education for Regionale Schulen, or equivalent)
  • The civil service post will only be conferred if the successful candidate is qualified to serve as a civil servant in higher service, performing academic duties. If they are unable to provide the required professional qualifications for higher service, an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) and at least two years and six months of full-time employment in a relevant field can also be recognised as equivalent professional qualification. The details are defined in § 14(4) Landesbeamtengesetz - LBG M-V (State Civil Service Act) and § 12 Allgemeine Laufbahnverordnung - ALVO M-V (General Career Path Ordinance for Civil Servants).

Desirable: 

  • A doctorate completed by the time employment starts
  • Extensive experience in the field of quantitative research methodology
  • Extensive publication record (national and international)
  • Experience in university teaching on teacher-training degree courses (diagnostics, inclusive education)
  • A Second State Examination in teacher training
  • Experience in academic self-governance
  • Experience of setting examinations in teacher-training degree courses in the field of inclusive and special educational needs
  • Experience in securing external funding
  • Relevant practical experience in working with children and youths with disabilities
  • Excellent English language skills (minimum B2 level)
