The Rudolf Stundl Foundation and its Prize

Rudolf Stundl Prize

The Rudolf Stundl Foundation at the University of Greifswald has now announced (November 2018) the latest call for entries for the Rudolf Stundl Prize. Participants can submit outstanding academic and practical works related to textiles or from adjoining areas of material culture. The prizemoney amounts to a total of 800 euros. The competition for the Rudolf Stundl Prize is held every four years and is primarily aimed at members of the University of Greifswald and the 26 international partner universities.

Attention

Unfortunately, due to the Foundation's unfavourable financial situation, the regular call for entries for the Stundl Prize 2024 has to be suspended until further notice.

Award Winners

  • 2016: Pauline Stopp
  • 2020: Anna Karlotta Margarete Last

The prize was endowed in 1985 by Rudolf Stundl (1897-1990), the initiator of carpet knotting in Vorpommern. On the one hand, the competition aims to support the academic investigation of textiles. This includes, for example, works on textiles from a historical, art theory, technical or commercial point of view. This also applies to witnesses of material culture and sources from scientific collections at universities and tertiary education institutions that are related to textile materials. On the other hand, entrants can submit innovative, practical works of art related to textile materials. Furthermore, works on overlapping topics such as marketing, communication, ecology and digital media, can be submitted if they are related to textiles.

The Rudolf Stundl Prize can be awarded to individuals or groups that can prove that they are associated to the University of Greifswald or to one of the partner universities. This could be the case, for example, if the submitted piece of work was produced during employment at the University of Greifswald or a partner university.

Those interested can submit their works to the Head of the Kustodie (University Collections), Dr. Thilo Habel. The entrants must prove that they are owner of the intellectual property rights/copyright of the artistic work.
