Responsibilities of the Rectorate

The Rectorate governs the University. For example, it is responsible for the strategic development of the university, sharing out the budgetary funds amongst the faculties and the central facilities, the creation and abolishment of study programmes, the announcement of vacant professorships and the compilation of final candidates lists.

The Rectorate is made up of the Rector, the Registrar and both the Pro-Rectors. One of these two has to be a professor, the second can be a different type of University member. The Rector is head of the Rectorate, delegates the tasks to the other members of the Rectorate, has the authority to define guidelines and represents the University externally. The Registrar is head of the University’s administration.

The University Library, University Computer Centre, the University Communications, the Office of Quality Assurance (IQS), the Research Support Centre, the Graduate Academy, the Office of Professorial Appointments and the Centre of University Didactics all report directly to the Rectorate.
