Proteomics and Protein Technologies

Proteomics and Protein Technologies

Functional genomics research is an innovative discipline. The methods of proteomics and protein technology open a new perspective on infectious diseases caused by bacteria. This is particularly important as 30 % of the world’s deaths are caused by infectious diseases.  Some of these diseases can no longer be treated due to the worrying increase of antimicrobial resistances. Proteomics and protein technology play a decisive role in the development and application of biotechnological procedures in medicine. Diagnostics and the fabrication of chemicals and pharmaceutical substances are further important fields. As an interdisciplinary science, modern biotechnology is based on the subject areas of biochemistry, chemistry, molecular and microbiology, immunology, pharmacy, medicine and bioinformatics. All of these disciplines are well established at the University of Greifswald and integrated in this key field of research.
