5. Requirements and Selection Criteria for the Allocation of a Scholarship

The applicants must be enrolled at the University of Greifswald by the start of the funding period at the latest and first-time applicants must still have at least two semesters of the regular length of study ahead of them.

Students up to the start of the second subject semester of an undergraduate degree course will be evaluated according to:

  • the average mark of the higher education entrance qualification with particular emphasis to be put on the individual marks for subjects relevant to the degree course or
  • the special qualification which grants the student access to a place for the relevant degree course at the University of Greifswald.

For students in higher semesters, the academic achievements to date are relevant, in particular the results of an intermediate examination or an intermediate diploma; for students on a Master's degree programme, the final grade of the previous Bachelor's degree programme is also relevant.

The following can also be included in the overall evaluation of the applicant’s potential:

  • special achievements, awards und prizes,
  • previous employment or subject-related internships,
  • out-of-school or extracurricular activities such as voluntary work; involvement in civic, social or political activities, university politics or in religious associations, associations or societies,
  • special personal or family circumstances, such as illnesses, disabilities, looking after own children, in particular as a single parent, or close relatives in need of care, working in a family-run business, professional employment during studies, family origin or migration background.

Important Information

The Deutschlandstipendium scholarships are financed half by state, half by private donors and are allocated according to the available funds. The scholarship does not affect any payments made according to BAföG.

There is no legal right to the allocation of a scholarship.

Students who are enrolled for degree courses in more than one faculty (or University Medicine) can choose the faculty that they wish to submit the application to (application is only possible for a main subject). It is not possible to apply to two faculties at the same time.

The decision regarding the allocation of the scholarships is made in a two-step procedure. The procedure within the faculty examines whether and in which order the applicants fulfil the above-named prerequisites. The University’s Central Allocation Commission then makes the final and interfaculty decision about the allocation of scholarships.
