On February 4, 2026 Prof. Petra Bacher will give a lecture as part of the Late Lunch Seminars on the topic of "Microbe-specific CD4+ T cells in humans: at the intersection of protection and inflammatory diseases". This talk is organized by the members of University Medicine’s “Domagk Master Class”, a support programme for high-achieving postdocs.
Prof. Bacher’s research focuses on human antigen-specific CD4+ T cell analyses and aims to understand the failure of tolerance mechanisms in the human immune system during chronic inflammatory diseases. She specifically investigates the role of microbiota-reactive CD4+ T cells in immune-mediated diseases using novel direct analyses of antigen-specific T cells. Together with her AG, she demonstrated that TCR cross-reactivity plays an important role in modulating human T-cell responses, including induction of pathogenic Th17 and Th1 cell subsets by the intestinal microbiota. Her work contributes to understanding aberrant T cell responses to fungal microbes in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases.
The Late Lunch Seminars, the Medical Faculty’s scientific lecture series, aim to promote networking across a wide range of research topics. The talks include presentations from local scientists and external project partners as well as inaugural lectures by newly appointed professors. The lectures are primarily aimed at the scientific staff of University Medicine, the University and non-university research institutions in Greifswald.
The talk is open to the university public and will be held in English. Registration is not required.
