Award Ceremony for the Sparkasse Vorpommern Advancement Award for German-Polish Collaboration

2025 marked the 26th time the award has been presented. The jury emphasised the exceptional quality of the submitted projects - which was in fact so high that thanks to the additional support from Sparkasse Vorpommern, two projects were chosen to receive the award this year.

Prizewinning project 1: “NaReT – Nachbarsprache |wird| reanimiert” (Reanimation with the Neighbouring Language) Acquisition of language and intercultural skills through AI-based reanimation training in the German-Polish borderlands.
The NaReT project combines language training, intercultural learning and medical emergency skills for the first time. A German-Polish consortium is developing an AI and XR-based training system that enables learners to communicate, act and practise their German or Polish at the same time in virtual reanimation scenarios. The AI analyses the language and behaviour in real time and adjusts the scenarios individually. NaReT breaks down language and cultural barriers, strengthens confidence in emergency situations and sustainably promotes German-Polish understanding.
The project that is co-financed by Interreg VI A is being realised by University Medicine Greifswald, the University of Greifswald’s Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, and the University Hospital no. 1 at the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin. A total of 18 partners from both countries are supporting the project.

Prizewinning project 2: “Flaxinuum – Innovative Plant-Based Food Products for Health and Sustainability”
The Interreg Poland-Germany project Flaxinuum, which started in August 2025, is developing eco-friendly plant-based food products with antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and potentially anticancer properties. The project is based on by-products that occur in the production of linseed oil – making a contribution to circular economy and sustainable bioeconomy. Project partners include the University of Greifswald, the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin and regional industrial partners. The project combines cross-border research, industrial application and student and scientific exchange. Prof. Łukasz Łopusiewicz is also involved in establishing international research networks and is co-author of a Horizon Europe grant proposal (2025). His outstanding scientific achievements were recognised through his inclusion in the Stanford-Elsevier “World’s Top 2% Scientists” ranking in 2024 and 2025.

By awarding the two prizes, Sparkasse Vorpommern honoured pioneering research that contributes towards consolidating German-Polish relations, sustainable development and international collaboration in the Euroregion Pomerania.
