At the Centre for Teacher Training in Biology that forms part of the University of Greifswald’s Department of Biology, there is a job vacancy in the Botany Unit that is expected to be available from 1 July 2026, subject to budgetary regulations, for a full-time
Postdoctoral Teaching Associate (akademische*r Rätin*Rat).
The position on offer is permanent and suitable for part-time employment.
Depending on budgetary and personal requirements, the successful candidate may be employed as a public sector employee or as a civil servant. If the relevant requirements are met, it is also possible to transfer from an existing civil servant position or to become a civil servant at a later date.
The post has been rated with pay grade A13. If the successful candidate is able to fulfil the requirements pursuant to civil service law, the University will employ them as a civil servant in higher service (zweites Einstiegsamt der Laufbahngruppe 2) performing academic duties. Otherwise, they shall be employed as a public employee in accordance with pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft if they fulfil the personal requirements and prerequisites determined in the collective agreement.
Job description:
- Academic services predominantly in teaching; the teaching obligation is determined by the LVVO M-V (currently envisaged: 12 classes (à 45 min.) per week in each semester)
- Conception and holding of classes (lectures, exercises, seminars, and practical courses) in general and systematic botany, plant biogeography, plant physiology, as well as ecology and nature conservation for teacher education (Lehramt Biologie)
- Supervision of theses for State Examinations in the field of botany in cooperation with the other units specialising in teaching the subject contents of biology, participation in the selection of corresponding topics
- Participation in the establishment and content-related further development of the teacher education degree courses in Biology
- Close networking with the other units specialising in teaching the fundamental subject contents of biology in the Centre for Teacher Training in Biology and joint conception of classes, e.g. in the fields of ecology and biodiversity
Job requirements:
- Successfully completed advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in biological sciences
- This civil service post will only be conferred if the successful candidate is qualified to serve as a civil servant in higher service, performing academic duties. If they are unable to provide the required professional qualifications for higher service, an advanced university degree (Erstes Staatsexamen, master’s degree or equivalent in biological sciences) and at least two years and six months of full-time employment in a relevant field can also be recognised as equivalent professional qualification. The details are defined in § 14(4) Landesbeamtengesetz - LBG M-V (State Civil Service Act) and § 12 Allgemeine Laufbahnverordnung - ALVO M-V (General Career Path Ordinance for Civil Servants).
- A doctorate (PhD) with a focus on botany
- Proven experience in independent university-level teaching in the field of botany (e.g. through teaching evaluations)
- Excellent German language skills (C2)
Further knowledge and skills that will play an important role in the filling of this post in higher civil service are:
- Experience in the subject-specific training of teachers (i.e. teaching of subject contents for future teachers)
- Proven didactic competencies (e.g. university teaching certificates)
- Practical experience in school education
- Experience in supervising undergraduate students (e.g. bachelor's and master's dissertations, theses for State Examinations)
- Experience in academic publishing
- Excellent English language skills (C1 or equivalent as demonstrated e.g. by scientific publications)
- Confidence and ability to deal with situations appropriately and in a solution-oriented manner
