At the University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Theology there is a position available at the Chair of Old Testament/Teaching Unit for Hebrew, which is expected to be available from 1 April 2026, subject to budgetary regulations, for a part-time (65%)

Research Assistant.

The position is limited to a period of 3 years. Payment will be made according to pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft.

The position is part of the Käthe Kluth Junior Research Group 2025, which deals with questions of textual and traditional history from the Second Temple period. A doctoral project related to this topic is to be started or continued within the scope of the position. The holder of the position should aim to complete a doctorate in the field of the Hebrew Bible.

Job description:

  • Academic services predominantly in the fields of research and teaching
  • Teaching students enrolled in the Church Examination (parish ministry)/Magister Theologiae and Religious Studies (teacher-training degree for Gymnasium) on the following courses:
    • Hebraicum (supplementary examination for the Abitur)/final examination “Knowledge of Hebrew” (faculty examination)
    • Hebrew reading courses (“Hebrew II”: every other semester)
    • Fundamental knowledge in the biblical sciences (Hebrew Bible)
  • Preparation, realisation, and correction of examinations in all degree courses offered by the Chair of Old Testament and the Teaching Unit for Hebrew
  • Collaboration on projects, events, and conferences within the Käthe Kluth Junior Research Group
  • Support in the organisation of the chair’s tasks
  • Collaboration in academic self-administration
  • The position holder will have the opportunity to continue their academic qualification; tasks will be assigned that are conducive to the preparation of a doctorate.

Job requirements:

  • Successfully completed advanced university degree in Protestant Theology with a focus on the Hebrew Bible (Magister/master's degree or equivalent) or equivalent qualification in Jewish Studies, Semitic Studies, or Religious Studies
  • Excellent Biblical Hebrew language skills (Hebraicum)
  • Excellent English language skills (level C2)

Further knowledge and skills that will play a decisive role in the selection of suitable candidates are:

  • Very good German language skills (level C1)
  • Knowledge of Ancient Greek (Graecum)
  • Knowledge of Modern Hebrew
