At the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, which belongs to the University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, there is a job vacancy, subject to budgetary regulations, expected to be available from 1 July 2026, for a full-time position as

(Postdoctoral) Teaching and Research Associate.

The position on offer is permanent. The position is suitable for part-time employment. Payment will be made in accordance with pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft

The University of Greifswald’s Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science currently offers the degree courses M.Sc. Mathematics and Computer Science, B.Sc. Bioinformatics, B.Sc. Mathematics, M.Sc. Mathematics, M.Sc. Biomathematics, and a teacher-training degree course in Mathematics. The University of Greifswald is planning to introduce a new joint-subject teacher-training degree course in “Computer Science” in winter semester 2026/2027. Applicants should have teaching and research experience in the field of computer science and be specially dedicated to teaching. They will be responsible for the classes that impart subject knowledge to the students of the new teacher-training degree course in Computer Science (lower and upper secondary education) and be involved in the design, establishment and continuous development of the offers.

Tasks:

  • Primarily teaching (currently 12 classes à 45 min. per week pursuant to LVVO-MV)
  • Designing, improving and holding classes in the new teacher-training degree course in Computer Science
  • Advising and supervising students, conducting exams, and participating in academic self-governance
  • Research in the field of computer science didactics or computer science in general
  • Developing (introducing and improving) the curriculum of the teacher-training degree course in Computer Science.

Required:

  • Postgraduate degree (State Examination, Master of Science or equivalent) in computer science or a postgraduate degree in a related field, or a teaching degree (1st and 2nd State Examination with additional qualifications in the area of computer science) by the time employment starts

Desired:

  • Doctorate in computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering or computer science didactics
  • Programming experience (Java or Python)
  • Basic knowledge in several of the following areas: operating systems, computer systems architecture, cryptography, databases, networks
  • Proven didactic skills
  • Experience in scientific publishing
