FAQs - Exam Registration
on topics such as dates and deadlines, admission, additional and substitute examinations, choice of examiners ...
The following information is of a general nature and does not replace students' obligations to cooperate, such as reading the relevant examination and study regulations.
When and where do I have to register for the exam?
Registration is possible online via the self-service portal during the examination registration periods. The registration periods are cut-off periods. The exact deadlines can be found on the University of Greifswald's homepage. Other examinations and/or marked coursework are an exception to the assessments you must register for. Here, registration is carried out in accordance with the respective Fachprüfungsordnung (Subject-Specific Examination Regulations) by the examiners via participant lists, etc. Details can be found in the respective Subject-Specific Examination Regulations.
Is it possible to register for examinations outside the specified registration periods?
As the registration deadlines are cut-off periods, it is no longer possible to register after the deadline.
What do I have to consider when registering for the examination? How do I know that my examination registration was successful? Who do I contact if I have problems?
A user account with password is required for examination registrations via the self-service portal. Please make sure you select the correct module (the module name can be found in the Prüfungsordnung (Examination Regulations) for the respective subject/degree course) and the examiners. You can view the status of the exam (registered) in the self-service portal. If any problems arise, please contact the Central Examination Office immediately via email, over the phone or in person.
Seminar, proseminar, exercise, lecture. What do I have to register for in order to have my credits recognised? Which classes have exams?
Registration for the module examinations follows the procedure described above. You will receive credit for successfully completing the module examination (including all partial assessments and/or coursework). The examiners are responsible for determining the contents of the examination, so we recommend that you consult and clarify the attendance of the individual classes with the respective lecturers.
How and when can I register for the final examination(s)?
Registration for a final examination (cross-modular examination or defence of the dissertation) is only possible if all admission requirements have been met. As a rule, registration for the final examination is not bound by the regular examination registration period, unless the Fachprüfungsordnung (Subject-Specific Examination Regulations) provide special provisions for this. If you intend to register outside the regular registration period, please complete this form and submit it to the Central Examination Office in good time before the exam.
Where and when can I find the exam dates and rooms for the current semester?
The examination dates and rooms will be arranged, set and entered into the self-service portal after the examination registration period has ended. They will be on display online from this point onwards. Students must inform themselves about the examination dates on the self-service portal. There is no separate information about examination dates, e.g. via email.
How can I register for an online exam?
If you wish to take an oral examination, a written examination or another examination online and at a location that deviates from the regular location in which the examination is taken, the chairperson of the examination board can agree to this with the consent of all the examiners and as long as equal opportunities can be guaranteed. This is also possible in the context of compensation for disadvantages.
You must send your request in no specific form to the Central Examination Office within the examination registration period. The reason must be substantiated with appropriate evidence.
For online examinations, the special provisions for electronic examinations must be observed by all persons involved in the examination.
Do I require a grant of admission prior to registering for the exam? When and where can I get this?
Whether an exam requires the grant of admission is determined by the Fachprüfungsordnung (Subject-Specific Examination Regulations) that applies to the respective degree course. The rules also specify whether admission is granted by notification. If this is the case, the student can collect the Confirmation of Admission to an Examination from the Central Examination Office until shortly before the exam.
I forgot to register for the exam during the exam registration period. What can I do?
It is no longer possible to register for an exam once the exam registration period has finished. It is therefore not possible to take the exam this semester. If you take the exam without registering for it, it will be ineffective and the exam result will not be recorded.
What can I do if I have registered for the wrong exam?
You can cancel your participation in exams that you registered for incorrectly online during the registration period. If the registration period has already finished, please contact the Central Examination Office immediately after realising that you have registered for the wrong exam. Under certain circumstances, it is possible to withdraw from the exam.
Can I also change/cancel my participation in registered exams?
During the ongoing registration period, you can cancel your participation in registered exams online and register for other exams. This is not possible once the registration deadline has passed. The exam must be taken unless you officially declare your withdrawal in accordance with the regulations.
What are additional courses? How and when do I enrol for them?
Additional courses are module examinations from other degree courses that can be taken in addition to the exams for your own degree course upon request. Students must request permission to take and register for exams in additional courses in writing with signature at the Central Examination Office during the registration period. When submitting the request, students must indicate the degree course and examination regulations that the exam belongs to and the exact name of the module. The registration request form for additional subjects must be submitted at the latest with the request/registration for the final examination and/or piece of marked coursework of your degree course.
Can I already complete master's modules during my studies for a bachelor's degree?
If you are at least provisionally enrolled on a master's degree course, you can also take the module examinations for that master's degree course. However, if you are not yet enrolled on a master's degree course, it is not possible to complete master's modules, as a successfully completed bachelor's degree course is generally considered an admission requirement.
Do I have the right to be examined by a specific examiner?
The examiners are commissioned by the examination board each semester. If several examiners have been commissioned for a module examination, students have a choice. However, it is permissible for examiners and observers to be changed for objective reasons at short notice. There is therefore no entitlement to a specific examiner.
How can I change the examiner for my exam?
A change of examiner can be requested in writing, in no specific form. If possible, this should be submitted to the Central Examination Office by the end of the registration period.
