What happens if I have not passed an exam? When does the resit of examination take place?
As soon as the examiner has sent the result of the failed exam to the Central Examination Office and recorded it, it will be visible online in the self-service portal. From the winter semester 2021/2022, you must register for the resit of examination yourself online. The Examination Office will no longer register you automatically.
The resit of examination usually takes place in the examination period of the following semester. If there is a second examination date in the same semester, you can be registered for this on request. Please refer to the Prüfungsordnung (Examination Regulations) for any exceptions. In any case, the exact examination date will be announced as usual via the self-service portal.
How many examination attempts do I have?
From the winter semester 2021/2022, you will have a total of four attempts for each exam. One possible free attempt is already included. (Repeat) exams for which you have not appeared also count as an attempt. Please refer to the Prüfungsordnung (Examination Regulations) for any exceptions.
Can I repeat an exam I have passed?
This is only possible within the framework of the free attempt. However, there is no free attempt for normal module examinations. Please refer to the Fachprüfungsordnung (Subject-Specific Examination Regulations) valid for you.
What happens to my resits of examinations if I am on leave of absence?
During a leave of absence, you are generally not allowed to take any examinations and/or marked coursework. Registration for the resit of examination is therefore automatically postponed to the semester in which you resume your studies. The requirement is that you have already registered for the relevant exams as normal.
